Hi I am a full time parent, full time homemaker and full time university student. I love my life the way it is, and when I had summer break I was very down because I didn’t have enough work to do. Now I have just started university, but I am very stressed, anxious and have mild social phobia. Although I have been diagnosed as having these problems, the therapist didn’t prescribe me anything or offer me any treatment. I can’t unwind, and in the last 2 weeks I have been sleeping very badly.
I have some mild psych symptoms like hearing things and being quite paranoid, and recently they seem to be getting worse. When I saw a therapist I couldn’t tell them the whole truth because I think they would have made me stay in the hospital, and I have to look after my son. I am a reasonable parent and others agree with me on this, the only person this is affecting is me.
Also is there a way to stop crawling sensations on skin? because this is one of the reasons I can’t sleep properly. I am trying really hard not to get down, but there are days when I cry alot.
Your therapist is not offering you treatment and thus is not very helpful. You withhold facts regarding your symptoms from your therapist. It’s possible that your therapist is not making suggestions because he or she is completely unaware that you need help. If you don’t tell them you need help how can they assist you? Remember therapists are not mind readers. There seems to be a misunderstanding between you and your therapist. Either he or she is not a good therapist or he or she does not know that you need help. You may either need to disclose the truth to them or get a new therapist.
You said that you are not currently receiving treatment despite being in therapy. As I mentioned above the best way to be helped is to tell your therapist the truth about your symptoms. If you are indeed suffering as much as you seem to be then maybe a stay in the hospital is needed. On the other hand your symptoms may not require a hospitalization even if you did disclose the truth to your therapist. There is a fair chance that you would not be hospitalized if you did disclose your symptoms. You may need to take the chance and tell your therapist the truth.
If your therapist is truly not helping you then consider finding a new one. You are clearly suffering and you need treatment. You cannot put off getting help because you need to be psychologically healthy for your son. If you are not well then your son will most likely notice. Most children can sense when their parents are not well. Even if you try to hide your symptoms while you’re in their presence many children still know that something is wrong. Please consider telling your therapist the truth or find a new one. This is what you need to do. Your son needs a psychologically stable mother. Thanks for your question.
