Who were the top 50 psychiatrists in the U.S. paid by the top seven pharmaceutical companies?
This past week, ProPublica, an independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest, recently decided to answer that question by compiling a list of 384 physicians and health care providers who earned more than $100,000 total from one or more of the seven companies that have disclosed payments in 2009 and early 2010. Click here for the full list of 384 physicians.
We combed that list and found the top 50 psychiatry earners for the past two years (2009-2010). You can click on any name below to learn more about the physician.
According to an accompanying article to this data, ProPublic notes that “[p]ayments to doctors for promotional work are not illegal and can be beneficial. Strong relationships between pharmaceutical companies and physicians are critical to developing new and better treatments.” Perhaps, but for far too long, companies have used physicians as empty-headed mouthpieces for their marketing propaganda.
Transparency helps ensure these relationships are now out in the open, so that other docs and health care professionals know exactly what they’re getting when a doctor speaks to them about a particular drug’s benefits.
ProPublic also found some concerns in their overall analysis of this data, namely that some doctors on the list faced disciplinary action, and others had resumes that wouldn’t support their use as an “expert” in the field, discussing a company’s research in context of the entire research base.

Read ProPublica’s article: Docs on Pharma Payroll Have Blemished Records, Limited Credentials

More information regarding the exposure to information provided by pharmaceutical companies and influence on prescriptions.
“Conclusions
With rare exceptions, studies of exposure to information provided directly by pharmaceutical companies have found associations with higher prescribing frequency, higher costs, or lower prescribing quality or have not found significant associations. We did not find evidence of net improvements in prescribing, but the available literature does not exclude the possibility that prescribing may sometimes be improved. Still, we recommend that practitioners follow the precautionary principle and thus avoid exposure to information from pharmaceutical companies.”

This definitely makes you wonder. Science should never choose bureaucracy and favoritism over ethics.
Thank you, Dr. John, for bringing this information to us!
What I see from this article is more confirmation of why the traditional medical world is stuck. It has an intricate relationship that is symbiotic or parasitical (depending on how you see it) between the practitioner, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies. Other attachments to this medical octopus are politicians/lobbyists and universities. I have often wondered about this conglomerate of entities in collusion with each other creating a legalized mafia. This is the clearest when you try to break into any of these worlds with alternative treatments and/or methodologies. It is like fighting Golliath. If you don’t work with Golliath, you are shamed, laughed at, ostracized, and even threatened with lawsuits and professional defrocking.
This article shows how there seems to be an incestuous relationship with at least two entities in the matrix of modern traditional medicine.

These payoffs have been going on for 30+ years. These so called doctors, as they call themselves, only push the meds, never cognitive therapy. Its a 5-10 minute talk with the patient and off they go with a script or 3 or 4. The patient calls the “doctor” back in 3 weeks and tells them about the side effects of the first med, the doc has them come in and writes a 2nd script to handle the side effect of the first med (these are not medicines by the way, they are narcotics and very addictive). After the fourth med is part of the patients routine, he doesn’t know who he is any longer, feels irritable, akathisia (severe restlessness), tardive dyslinesia (incontrollable muscle movements like tics but much more pronounced), zombie like feeling, severe nausea, hostile attitudes, insomnia to the tenth degree, a feeling like you have no emotion and are disconnected from your life. You cant cry or laugh when you want to (very common) I could go on for 2 more paragraphs but you get the point. THESE DRUGS ARE ALL POISONS AND ARE NOT NEEDED BECAUSE THEY CURE N-O-T-H-H-I-N-G!!!!! They only cover up and mask the symptom of a mental disease which for the most part is a symptom of a PHYSICAL DISEASE, NOT A CHEMICALA IMBALANCE. Americans have been sold a bill of goods. Americans are committing suicide because of these poisons and these so called vood doo doctors are the pill pushers of the midern era, just like the scum selling drugs to school kids. AND at least 10% of these voo doo people will tell you that having sex with their patients is good therapy (yeah right, good therapy for them to get their perverted rocks off while they exploit the patient for months and blackmail them so they dont turn them in-but most use hypnosis to make them forget about the sexual episode)
Its all in the name of money and power to keep people in the dark and not find out the truth about who these people really are.
This comments are designed to bring the light to moms and dads so they do not fall in the trap of getting themselves or their precious kids hooked on these poisons. Do your own research. Talk to your friends and family, co workers before deciding to go the drug route. I have done my homework. I have spoken with 1000’s of parents, grandparents, teachers, psychs, nurses and friends of friends and have found out about too many suicides and senseless deaths and lost lives all stemming from these horrible drugs and their deadly side effects.
My former psychiatrist, Dr. Richard Weisler, is on the list…which will be of no surprise to those who have experienced his work. His staff had me diagnosed as bipolar (from a two page multiple choice form they had me fill out) within 10 minutes of walking into the office. I was enrolled in a drug study before I even had a chance to think about it and over the course of my “treatment”, he somehow convinced me that almost my whole family was also bipolar and tried to sign them up, too. As kidshavenochoices shared above, I was put on so many drugs and then even more drugs to counter the “side” effects…to the point that I couldn’t function at all. My life, my marriage, my everything went to ruin and would still be in that shape today if I hadn’t finally (after 10 years) had a spiritual awakening and with the help of meditation, yoga and energy work I am now (for 4 years!) off of all medications, am off of what was supposed to be permanent social security disability and am happier and more productive than I’ve ever been in my life.
Thank you for helping to spread the word of what is really going on behind the mask of psychiatry. It’s time for us to all wake up & assume responsibility for all aspects of our health and to realize that the majority of those diagnosed with mental disorders are actually suffering from spiritual dis-ease.

These 50 psychiatrists are in bed so to speak with Big Pharma because of the big money $$$$$$$.
It is shameful!!
No news and not surprising with the system the way it is in the USA.
Living in another country in Europe I know by experience that this can and should be changed to ensure better conditions and proper care for patients!!
Anybody who is serious about this thing please get with me. I am heading up a project called Dont Label My Kid! http://www.dontlabelmykid.com
We are bringing this into the national spotlight and our team of pro’s can always use more help.
